On the occasion of the tenth edition of The Venice Glass Week, CASA YALI presents GLAS, PLEXI, Paola Petrobelli's first solo exhibition in Venice. It is a new, expanded version of the show that opened in May during the 61st Biennale Arte.
A London-based designer with a background in molecular biology, Petrobelli works with a modular language, combining Murano blown glass and Plexiglas in sculptures conceived as systems that can be freely composed.
Through the repetition and variation of their elements, the works constantly shift configuration, oscillating between seriality and improvisation, rigour and play. Light is part of the composition, revealing the material nature of the glass.
The work echoes Carlo Scarpa's attention to materials and the experimental spirit of Ettore Sottsass.
